You've been self-employed since 1991 in a very specialised field. How do you stay motivated?
Through variety. There are always new processes to test, new machines. I find out what others are doing, what the specialist institutes are recommending. If you don’t stay on the ball, you can’t keep up technologically. Customer requirements also evolve, new legislation is introduced and I am constantly learning.
Managing 28 people is a challenge - what have you learnt over the years?
You have to take things in stride and not make assumptions, because everyone feels differently. As an entrepreneur, I have a different perspective from my employees anyway. I used to be more impulsive, but I’ve learnt to keep calm and collected when things go wrong.
