Feel more to see more

How to get more out of your day and ignite your creativity by feeling more

Do you wonder how to slow down time? Or how to get more out of the moments that just keep coming at you and running straight past you? Sometimes hours pass entirely unnoticed instead of waiting on us to properly enjoy… Especially when we are having a busy day.  I`ve found one thing to make the moments stay with us more: it`s is to feel and use our senses on purpose. I usually only use my eyes on purpose, and hearing and tasting, too – at least sometimes, I guess. The other senses are more on autopilot, and I don`t take much notice of what they tell me.

It may sound weird, but I`ve noticed that by purposely smelling and especially feeling with touch, I become more content and more creative. And this reaches into my way of seeing things and thus my work as a photographer. By feeling more, I see more.

Smell the popcorn

When putting on a pullover in the morning ignore your racing thoughts about that meeting later. But purposely feel – how the material feels on you and how it makes you feel inside. Feel the chair you`re sitting on, the coffee foam on your tongue, the sparkle of the sparkling water. Breathe in and notice if you can smell the air of summer nights, lavender, … – today I smelled popcorn walking past the local cinema…

Fresh bed linens. Too tired keep the eyes open for much longer. Yet, feel: The cool sheets. Soft. Stretch your legs. This is now, when time is not running – well maybe it is, but you can catch it for a short little while.

Truly feel at least a few moments of this day, before it`s gone forever, so that you may be left with something that stays a little longer.
